Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Australian tax brackets for 2025-26?
For the 2025-26 income year: $0–$18,200 is tax-free. $18,201–$45,000 is taxed at 16%. $45,001–$135,000 is taxed at 30%. $135,001–$190,000 is taxed at 37%. Above $190,000 is taxed at 45%. These rates were updated from 1 July 2024 as part of the revised Stage 3 tax cuts.
What is the Medicare levy?
The Medicare levy is 2% of your taxable income. It funds Australia's public health system. You may qualify for a reduction or exemption if your income is below certain thresholds, or if you have appropriate private health insurance. There's also a Medicare Levy Surcharge (1-1.5%) if you earn over $93,000 and don't have private hospital cover.
Is super included in my salary?
That depends on your employment agreement. Some contracts specify "plus super" (super is paid on top of your salary). Others include super in a "total package." This calculator assumes your salary is before super — meaning your employer pays an additional 12% into your super fund on top of the salary you entered.
